Full Answer

The original Cherokee shoes proved quite popular and were soon sold in major department stores such as Bloomingdale's and Macy's. By the end of the 1970s, Cherokee was producing more than 1.5 million pairs of shoes per year. After reaching profits of almost $34 million in 1980, the brand expanded to include an entire line of men's and women's clothing in 1983. Cherokee also began selling its products in China, Russia, England and Australia.

After enjoying great success during the late 80s and early 90s, Cherokee had plans to try to make their brand a globally recognized name. The company recorded a record profit of nearly $240 million in 1991. However, the company has struggled since then, filing for bankruptcy multiple times during the 90s.

Cherokee has made somewhat of a comeback since then. During the early 2000s, the company was able to successfully expand its brand into South America and Africa.
