Capri pants, which are also called cropped pants, are typically mid-calf-length pants. The standard length for capris is midway between the ankle and the knee.
Capri pants were invented by European fashion designer Sonja de Lennart in1948. Capri pants take their name from the Italian island of Capri where the style grew in popularity in the 1950s and 1960s. While originally worn mainly by women in the United States and popularized most notably by Mary Tyler Moore in her role as Laura Petrie on the television show "The Dick Van Dyke Show," capris have also gained popularity with men recently.
