Balances and transactions on the reloadable Emerald Card can be checked on the H&R Block website. An account for the site has to be set up and verified through email before any account information is accessible. Use the "Sign In" button in the upper right corner to begin the process.
Once an account is set up, logging in to the Emerald Card Dashboard shows the current card balance and any activity in the current month. It also provides the option to view statements for the past 12 months in either PDF or Excel format. Transferring funds from a linked checking account is a quick way to reload the Emerald debit card. Instructions for setting up direct deposits for payroll or governmental checks are also provided.
Accounts can have text messages sent to the cardholder's phone whenever transactions occur, eliminating the need for Internet access. Once this function is set up, texting "BAL" to the company provides an up-to-date balance at any time.
There is also a mobile banking application. Account tracking, transaction monitoring, bill pay and loading funds directly from checks are supported by the app, which is is available for Apple and Android smartphones.
If the Internet, text and mobile app options are not available, a call to the customer service number on the back of the card is another free option. Balance inquires made through an ATM are subject to fees.
