As of 2014, Dr. Pepper is not owned by the Coca-Cola Company or PepsiCo in the United States. It operates under the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, which also owns 7 Up and Snapple. In international markets, Coca-Cola owns most of the rights to Dr. Pepper.Know More
The ownership of Dr. Pepper has been an important factor in a number of antitrust legal cases in the United States. In 1986, the Federal Trade Commission blocked a merger between Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper citing the logic that such a merger would give the resulting company a monopoly on "pepper" flavored drinks. The Dr Pepper Snapple Group doesn't own a complete network of bottlers, so it contracts with bigger companies for use of their factories and as a result some bottles of Dr. Pepper display the Coca-Cola or Pepsi logo on the back.
