The inaugural design of the Global Forever stamp depicts the planet Earth in colorful hues of green, red, blue and yellow. Released on Earth Day, the design is a realistic composite of 3D satellite images of North America surrounded by vibrant oceanic waters. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration provided the model for the project. The red, green and blue areas on the stamp are exactly what sea surface temperature variations look like when observed by scientists. The initial idea for this scientific artwork came from a citizen stamp advisory committee. The U.S. Post Office teamed up with the NOAA to create an image that celebrates the Earth and oceans.
The Global Forever stamp is used similarly to the domestic Forever stamp. Both stamps offer people an alternative to regular postage stamps. Forever stamps ensure that mail gets to its destination regardless of postal rate increases.Learn more about Postal Services
