Mechanics also specialize in equipment maintenance and repair in various other industries such as motorcycle, air conditioning, aircraft, tank and military vehicle service.

In the automotive industry, mechanics are required to hold at minimum a high school diploma. Some employers require additional certifications as vehicles and equipment become more specialized.
