What Are the Effects of Cultism on Education?

Cultism promotes violence in schools, colleges and universities. The eruption of violence automatically leads to disruption of learning, with culprits being suspended or expelled. In some cases, the institutions have to close, thereby affecting innocent students.

A cult is an organized group whose activities are conducted in secrecy and shielded from the general public. If cultism is discovered, it may be subject to prosecution and detention of criminal elements. Several universities, where cultism is rampant, have not only witnessed physical harm, but also the death of students and lecturers. In Nigeria, for example, cults and secret societies in learning centers have led to widespread riots and revolts.
