What Are the Effects of Poor Education?

Poor education can have devastating effects on the economy such as fewer job opportunities and an increase in the amount of people living in poverty. There is a direct correlation between children who live in poverty and a poor education. The longer a child lives in poverty, how far below the poverty line a child lives and at what point in the child’s development the poverty occurs all affect education.

Children who live in poverty are less likely to perform well at school. These children may also not have access to the same level of education and continued education that their wealthier counterparts have. Children who receive a poor education have fewer job opportunities. As the pool of workers who have a poor education grows, the pool of skilled workers shrinks. This causes money to be pulled from the economy and the economy to start to fail over time. Several factors related to poverty can severely affect a child’s ability to learn in school, leading to receipt of a poor education. These factors include the amount of rest a child gets at night, whether or not he eats well, how stressful his living situation is and whether or not he is receiving encouragement from parents or guardians to complete school work.
