Farewell speeches typically break down into a few major categories. These include those where an individual is saying farewell to a place or organization to which he belonged; those where an individual is being bade farewell from a place or organization; and funeral speeches, commonly known as eulogies.
For the first two categories of farewell speeches, there are a few areas of content that should be included. Summaries of a leaver's experiences are common, as are brief highlights of a leaver's accomplishments and skills. Anecdotes, humorous or otherwise, are typically included as well. Gratitude for and from the leaver is expressed throughout a speech.
For eulogies, the above areas of content are considered. Quotations, poems, and other forms of remembrances are usually included in addition.
