What Is a Learning Aid?

Learning aids are books, notes, charts, computers, recordings, diagrams or any equipment, tools, and devices that aids in the learning and development process. Learning aids enhance one’s learning abilities and help to increase one’s learning potential.

Learning aids are available according to the three types of learners: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. For example, visual learners will benefit from watching movies, slides and hands-on demonstrations. Visual learners will benefit best from voice recognition software, recordings, oral speeches, charts, maps and speech software. Kinesthetic learners learn best from hands on experience. They need to feel, touch and interact with the learning process.

Learning aids help individuals grasp the concept of learning new skills and techniques by seeing, hearing and touching, but most of all by exploring the environment around them. From primary schools to upper universities, the learning process continues to evolve. The use of advanced technology is seen in classrooms around the world, and the need to learn how to use the equipment, tools and devices are more relevant than ever. Students and ordinary individuals with disabilities have a difficult time keeping up with normal pace of learning, so the need to invest in a diversity of learning aids is essential.
