Studying abroad is now becoming a major part of the higher education experience. Most students choose to study abroad, even if they aren't studying another language, simply to gain experience outside of their comfort zone. However, it can be scary trusting in a program that you don't know much about, especially when you plan on spending time outside of the country and away from the people you know. But here are some very reputable programs that you can trust to bring you a rewarding experience.
Semester at Sea is probably one of the most reputable study abroad programs. It is possibly even the most unique. Semester at Sea allows students to live on a massive cruise ship as they travel to countless destinations around the world. It is an excellent opportunity for those who want to see and experience a large portion of the world without living in a single spot for more than a few days. Semester at Sea has been around for almost 30 years.
The Center for Study Abroad (CSA) has been around for over 20 years. The CSA provides opportunities for students and adults alike, striving to provide affordable opportunities for those who wish to experience a large piece of the world. However, the reason the program is so affordable is because they do not include excursions in the price. Those who study abroad with CSA must arrange their own additional trips.
For those who are not yet in college, Learning Programs International offers study abroad opportunities for high school students to a number of different countries. Excursions are included in the trip but, because of safety considerations, students cannot travel independently. The program has been around since 1987 and has been offering affordable and reliable study abroad experiences since.
If you are still unsure about the proper program for you, speak with a guidance counselor at your school and they can help you to find more specific information.
