Christmas is a beautiful season of warmth and giving, and nothing is a more symbolic of the holiday season than a wonderfully decorated, freshly cut Christmas tree. If you live in or near the state of New Jersey, there are some great Christmas tree farms where you can go to experience the best of the holiday season and cut or purchase your own fresh tree.

Wyckoff's Tree Farm in Belvidere is open during daylight hours beginning on November 27th and has been selling Christmas trees for 43 years. Owned and operated by the Wyckoff family who settled on the farm in 1839, it has been the location where the governor of New Jersey has traditionally selected the official Christmas tree of the state. They offer Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, Concolor Fir, Blue Spruce, and Norway Spruce trees up to 12 feet tall. You can cut your own tree or buy one freshly cut, wrapped, and ready to cart away to your home. The farm has a gift shop featuring wreaths and special Christmas gifts, along with hot and cold food and beverages. You can take the whole family for a hayride and guided tour of the 170 acre farm and enjoy the spectacular vistas of the Delaware Water Gap.
Shale Hill farm in Sussex has 2000 trees available for sale from 10 AM to dark between November 25th and December 24th. Here you can cut your own pines, spruces and fir trees. Free refreshments at the Candy Cane Cottage are offered, and it is a great place to bring the kids along because they feature adorable farm animals, Christmas movies in the hay loft, and several visits each day from Santa Claus himself! There is a wild life sanctuary, and they will give you photographs as a keepsake of your visit.
Evergreen Valley Christmas Tree Farm in Washington Township has an enormous selection of over 10,000 trees, featuring Douglas Fir, Canaan Fir, Fraser Fir, Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, White Pine, and Scotch Pine. The farm was founded by the Alpaugh family in 2003 and features a spectacular mountain vista. Refreshments are served, and you can look forward to spending a wonderful few hours as you pick and cut your fresh Christmas tree.
Giordanos Tree Farm in Newton also offers 10,000 trees at heights up to 20 feet. They also have a single price policy. You can buy your tree for $45 regardless of the size or species. They are open on weekends in December from 8 Am until dark. And you can choose from Blue Spruce, White Spruce, Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, and others.
Exley's Christmas Tree Farm in Sewell opens on Halloween, October 31st and is open weekends until the day after Thanksgiving when it stays open daily from 9 AM to 8 PM. They offer 2000 trees including Douglas Firs, Fraser Firs, Canaan Firs, Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, and White Pine. All cutting is done by Exley employees as a safety precaution. So if you don't want to cut your own tree, Exley's can be a good choice. It is a fun place for the entire family, featuring hayrides through the fields, visits from Santa, and Santa Land, where children can see Santa at work with his elves creating presents.
