It includes a 50-lap memory recall and tracks how many calories have been burned during a run or other workout. You also have the option to choose from a 12-hour or 24-hour clock. The Suunto T4 is priced around $200.

Garmin Forerunner

Also named as a top running watch by “Runner’s World,” the Garmin Forerunner, comes in black, lilac and pink designs for women. This watch regularly tracks your heart rate and number of calories burned during a run. Sold separately, the Garmin foot pod also enables the watch to track the speed and distance of your run. With its wireless technology, the watch has the ability to automatically send data from your run to your computer and input into an analysis program. If you enjoy competition while running, the Virtual Partner feature allows you to race against a virtual opponent.

Polar RS800

The Polar RS800 is designed for professional athletes and seasoned runners. Included with the watch is ProTrainer software which helps runners design the optimal workout after receiving data from the watch during a run. In addition to basic features such as an alarm and 12 or 24-hour time display, the watch offers a heart-rate monitor and an S3 Stride Sensor which measures your distance, stride length and speed. At the high-end of the running watch scale, this watch retails for around $500.
