Ski at Sunday River

Sunday River is one of the most beautiful ski resorts in Maine, and is located just three miles from the center of town. With a great deal of trails ranging from beginner to expert in terms of difficulty, there is plenty to love about skiing at Sunday River. Perhaps best of all is the fact that Sunday River tends to get far less ice than other ski resorts in New England, making it the perfect location for beginners to learn without having to deal with the stress and anxiety that often comes along with skiing in harsh conditions.

Visit in Grafton Notch State Park

While many people travel to Bethel, ME to ski, there is a great deal of walking/hiking to be had in the area. One of the most beautiful locations to visit is Grafton Notch State Park, which is just over 12 miles away from the center of Bethel. Grafton notch affords some of the most attractive views you’re likely to find in Maine, including vistas of waterfalls, caves and more. This is an excellent destination for those who are visiting Bethel during summer months.

Hike the Mount Will Trail

The Mount Will walking trail is located about 5 miles outside the center of Bethel, and is perfect for those who are looking to spend time outdoors. The hike up can be somewhat steep and strenuous, but is certainly nothing that amateur hikers can’t handle. In good weather, the Mount Will trail serves as an excellent hike for those who are looking to do a half day, as the hike can typically be completed in under 3 hours.

Visit the Sunday River Covered Bridge

There is a bridge located outside of the center of Bethel (approximately 8 miles) that is said to be one of the most photographed in the state. Restored in 1872, the Sunday River covered bridge is an ideal place to visit for those who are interested in New England history. Best of all the, visiting the bridge is free of charge, making it a perfect activity for families.

Hike Goose Eye Mountain

Goose Eye mountain is located 12 miles outside of Bethel, and makes for an excellent hike for those who are up to the challenge. The Mahoosuc Chain’s second-highest mountain, Goose Eye is perfect for both those who are interested in a difficult hike and those who simply want to casually stroll around the area and take pictures. A visit to Goose Eye mountain during the warmer months of the year can be an unforgettable experience.
