5 Must-Have Sea Fishing Tackle Box Items

Very few outdoor activities are as exhilarating as sea fishing, but it is also an activity that requires careful planning to ensure that you have all the must-haves in your tackle box. The following are the top five items you should make sure you have on hand, but that does not mean they are the only things. Sea fishing comes with its own set of challenges, so make you do extensive research before setting out.

Lures

All sea fishing tackle boxes should be equipped with an assortment of lures. The chances of losing a lure while fishing are extremely high. You therefore should have additional lures and a variety of types, because only certain fish will react to certain lures. If you lose the one lure that seems to be working the best for you, you could be out of luck!

Hooks

You should also have an assortment of hooks. When sea fishing, you never know what type of fish you are going to encounter. You may think you will only need small or medium hooks only to find that the fish that keep on biting are much larger. Without using the proper hooks, you could waste valuable time trying to catch fish that are either too large or too small for the hooks you are using.

Line

Extra fishing line should be a no brainer. Sea fishing is much more challenging than fishing in a lake or a river, because you never know what is going to end up pulling on your line. If an extremely large fish latches onto your hook, you may have to cut it loose to prevent your fishing pole from being pulled into the sea. This could happen countless times in a day. Stock up before heading out to make sure you don’t have to head home early.

Spools

Extra spools for your reels are also a necessity. Spools can easily break, especially when trying to reel in something that doesn’t want to be caught. If you have extra time, fill these spools with line so that they are ready to go. Regardless if you have them prepped, they should still have a home in your tackle box. Having no spare spool can be just as devastating as running out of line or not having the proper lure.

Matches

Always bring matches and place them in a waterproof container. While this may seem like an odd thing to include, it is much more important than you realize. Sea fishing can be dangerous, especially if something were to go wrong. Having a way to start a fire will be a lifesaver if an unfortunate event were to take place.

Sea fishing requires a lot of ‘what if’ planning. You need to plan for the worst and basically bring an extra set or two of everything. It is the best way to ensure you don’t have to return home early.
