5 Popular Golf Headcovers

By Mark Cook , last updated December 7, 2011

Golf headcovers are extremely popular and are actually quite a practical item to have. There are several forms of headcovers that are quite popular and each offers ways for individuality and personality to shine through. They do an amazing job of keeping your club heads protected while you are roaming around or even driving to the course. Naturally, your clubs will shift around in your bag and the worst thing that could happen is having one club bang into and dent another. This is especially true if a club hits another club in its face, causing the surface to no longer be smooth. Clubs are very expensive and should be cared for properly, so getting a few headcovers is absolutely crucial! Here are 5 of the more popular styles of golf headcovers.

Animals

Without a doubt, animal-based headcovers are one of the, if not the most, popular type of headcover. This trend became popular when Tiger Woods started using a Tiger designed headcover on his driver. Since then, people have flocked to these animals for their own unique and fun choices. Nowadays you can find headcovers for every animal imaginable, including ducks, bulls, gorillas, birds, pigs, and donkeys. One popular animal headcover is the gopher because of its significant role in the golf movie classic "Caddyshack"!

Sports Teams

A great way to showcase your team pride and spirit is to get a headcover featuring your favorite sports team. This is a really popular choice, as headcovers are made for teams from all the major sports leagues. You can often find these designs with your team logo clearly embroidered for all to see. The NFL headcovers are extremely popular, as they feature all the most popular franchises, including the Patriots, Giants, Steelers, Eagles, and Cowboys. Another popular choice, especially for college sports teams, is headcovers with the team mascot. The Florida Gators have a headcover with a giant alligator head, while Notre Dame’s headcover features a fighting Irishman.

Argyle

Whenever you see an argyle pattern, you immediately think of golf. Argyle is a classic look that has been used in golf shirt, sock, and even hat designs for generations. The argyle patterned headcover is now a very popular choice, as it offers a look of refinement and class to your clubs. These also often come with a pom-pom attached to the top, for that chic golfer look. Even if you are not a golfer, this look can fool people into believing you are a true professional!

Movie and Television Characters

Movie and TV characters are another extremely popular choice for headcovers. Surprisingly, you will find headcovers for almost any major character available. They have them available for animated characters, such as Garfield, The Pink Panther, and pretty much any character from Family Guy. You can also find superhero headcovers, such as Batman and Superman, as well as more fictional characters, such as Yoda and the GEICO Caveman.

Beer

Everybody loves beer and a lot of people like to enjoy a brew while on the golf course. It should come as no surprise, then, that beer-themed headcovers are quite a popular style. Many breweries, including Corona, Heineken, and Coors, make their own headcover with their logo printed on it.
