All About Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta is the luxury fashion brand known worldwide for its high-end leather goods including bags, shoes, luggage and accessories, as well as its distinctive fashion line. Founded in 1966, the brand developed a following, becoming known for its signature woven leather weave known as intrecciato. The brand was super hot in the 70s and 80’s but lost its buzz thereafter, a situation that nearly forced the brand into bankruptcy. Luxury behemoth Gucci bought the brand and planted German wunderkind Thomas Maier at the helm as creative director. Bottega was back in business, now known for super-luxe ready to wear in addition to leather goods. Bottega Veneta now has favorite child status as the best performing brand in the Gucci portfolio, which includes other upscale lines like Yves Saint Laurent and Stella McCartney. The store boasts over 100 stores in 30 countries. The line has gone from trendy bag design to lifestyle brand. Their other lines include eyewear, fragrance, and home. Bottega’s celebrity clientele includes Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman

Ready to Wear

People who favor Bottega Veneta ready-to-wear adore the elegant but understated lines of the clothes, which are made of the most sumptuous materials while retaining chic but understated lines. If you seek obvious labels, go elsewhere. Maier eschews putting a literal stamp on everything, and believes that the products should just speak for themselves.

The current women’s spring collection is just dreamy. It emphasizes ease of wear and a casual informality that somehow still manages to look exquisite and special. The neutral color tones of creams, blacks, whites and silver greys are signature Bottega Veneta. The materials somehow both reveal and conceal the body, softly cradling your curves as you move while simultaneously flowing freely.

The men’s collection has a similar fluidity while stamped with a boxiness that gives the clothes’ outlines a bit of structure. The colors range from strong, bold colors like crimson reds to lighter, neutral tones of cream and white. Leathers like suede and patent seem almost hammered to a paper-thin texture that allows movement and yet creates a perfect line.

Bags and Luggage

The Bottega Veneta bag collection is renowned for its supple feel, exquisite materials used, and the sheer beauty of its lines. Even Hermes employees have been known to consider Bottega Veneta bags their only real competition. The signature Bottega Veneta bag is aptly named the Veneta. It’s designed in a hobo shape and is made, like all Veneta bags, with the supreme quality leather and attention to detail that makes this brand one of the best of the best. In addition to the woven pattern, Bottega Veneta also make exquisite bags with smoother textures like the Empire Cervo Loop bag, a beautifully made bag with a light texture and exquisite border and trim detailing.

The luggage is the definition of high end luxury, and ranges in shape from supple, fluid duffels like the Nero Polonaise bag to the classically structured Dark Navy Marco Polo Suitcase, which has actually influenced some of the lines furniture design.

Furniture

Veneta started working with the designer Poltrona Frau, creating the iconic Meta Chair. That chair spawned much of the furniture in the Bottega Veneta line and remains true to the brand’s simple but luxurious and refined aesthetic.
