The Farmington fair in Farmington, Maine is the place to be September 18 through September 24, 2011. This is the 171st year the Annual Exhibition Farmington Fair has delighted the young and old. Since 1840 the fair has been the autumn social event of Franklin County, attracting visitors from all over the state and surrounding area. Since the first agricultural fair in 1840, it’s been at the High street fair grounds.
The 2011 fair is a week –long event that brings a taste of the traditional fair exhibits like livestock judging, handmade crafts, arts, pickles and food goods into the present. Today’s visitors also enjoy music, horse racing, demolition derbies, wrestling, truck and tractor pulls.
A fall fair is as American as apple pie. Here you can watch the produce judging, see the perfect apple. Look at the blue ribbon winning apple pie and jelly, and then find an award winning piece of pottery or basket to contain them.
Mom will love the flower shows, art and homemade pickles and jams. Dad will enjoy the para-mutual racing, the horse racing of trotters and pacers. The kids will go wild at the amusement midway. There are ride specials on Monday 9/19 and Wednesday 9/21.
Everyone will laugh at Dan Grady’s strolling marionettes, tap to the fiddle music and the Moose Creek Cloggers. Senior day is Tuesday 9/20 and Thursday 9/22. Get in for only $2.00.
What could be better than looking at the 4-H animal exhibits, a dairy goat show and an antique tractor pull? What a day, so much to see and so much to eat, the smell of cotton candy and taffy filling the air.
