All About the Orion Cooker

Created by Orion Outdoors, the Original Orion Cooker is a truly unique piece of cooking equipment. While not truly a smoker, the Orion Cooker is built to appeal to those who love to smoke food but don’t necessarily enjoy the hassle that comes along with the process. Utilizing three distinct cooking methods—convection, steam and smoke—the Orion Cooker produces food in a fraction of the time that it takes to cook food in a smoker, without sacrificing quality. While ribs might take up to 8 hours to smoke in a traditional smoker, the Orion Cooker can finish them in under an hour and a half, producing food that is just as juicy as the traditional way.

Many people who cook with traditional grills or smokers find themselves having problems with burning or overcooking food. Since the heat source of the Orion Smoker does not actually make contact with the food, the chances of the food getting burnt or overcooked are significantly lower than with a more traditional piece of equipment. Depending upon what type of food you wish to cook, the food is placed inside the cooker on either a hanging or stable rack. Charcoal is placed on the outside of the cooker and lit, creating a convection-style cooking technique.

For those who are interested in cooking food outdoors but don’t want to deal with excessive flare-ups and difficult cleanup, the Orion Cooker is a great alternative to more standard grilling and smoking equipment. The stainless steel material means it will last for years to come when properly taken care of. The relatively low learning curve means that you’ll be producing quality food soon after learning how to use it, and the short cooking times allow you to get on with your day without having to hover around the fire for hours at a time.
