Attic Bonus Room Ideas

There are many different attic bonus room ideas available to you, should your home have an extra attic space (either over a garage or some other portion of the house). For example, you could convert the space into a home office, an extra bedroom, an art studio, a playroom, a family game room, or a family room. Too often this room goes unused, or is up for discussion in the family over what to do with the space.

First you need to consider what other rooms in your home are used for. Do you already have a den or home office? Do your children have a safe and fun play space in the home? If not, consider using the bonus room for these purposes. If you live in an area where bad weather is an issue a playroom is necessary to keep the kids happy when the only option is inside play. If you have teens you could let them use the room as a “hang out” for their friends to gather. Or you can use your attic bonus room for a family fun area such as a game room or a family room. As an added bonus you could even install a second story deck or balcony off the room for a nice outdoor space.

Since attic bonus rooms are so diverse you can use it as a creative outlet for you and your family. Convert the space into an art studio where the whole family can paint, sculpt, draw or relax in whatever form of art they choose. This space can be converted into a spare bedroom if the need arises from frequent company or a growing family. Also consider using the room as a pet palace. If your family has adored pets you can make your bonus room into a space your animals can enjoy and play that is all their own. Any idea for your bonus room is a good idea as long as it fits the needs of you and your family.
