A garden patio can be one of the most relaxing, enjoyable aspects of customizing your home to your preferences and tastes. Luckily, designing an awesome garden patio does not have to be expensive or difficult. With a few tips from patio design experts, you could be on your way to a lovely, restful, and visitor-friendly patio that will greet you at the door with a visual message saying, "welcome back". Whether your space is large or small, bare or has existing landscaping, these awesome patio design ideas can liven up your space and provide you with hours of enjoyment for the whole family.

Trellising

Installing vine foliage can be a great way to add visual interest and color to a patio space. Many types of vines can grow readily and well with just a bit of sunlight and water, flowering in spring and inviting welcome visitors in the form of butterflies and hummingbirds.

Container Planting

Container planting allows for color and plant life in areas where the patio may be covered in concrete, wood, or other surface not suitable for free soil planting. Adding plants allows for the installation of small flowering or fruit trees, herbs, upright growing vines, and other decorative foliage that can bring life and beauty to your patio space.

Post Planting

Consider post planters to add foliage to walls, lampposts, and ledges where foliage might otherwise not grow.

Water Fixtures or Fountains

Adding a small decorative water fountain or water fixture, or even a self-contained waterfall to your patio area brings the soothing sounds of a natural water featuring to your patio.

Decking or Flooring

For a slightly larger patio space, consider adding a small deck or floor area on which to place seating and maybe even a grill. Use decorative river rock or slate as a border, and the install foliage around the edges for a natural appeal.
