Bathroom Design Ideas

Bathrooms are often the smallest rooms in a house, but using these design ideas they won't be small on style. The most important aspect of bathroom design is making sure it fits your family's lifestyle in terms of storage, budget and overall size. Once you've determined the space's functionality needs, it's time to turn an eye to the stylistic design. Consider one of these popular options.

Vintage

What's old is new again as many people turn their sights to the designs of the past. To successfully accomplish this look, search flea markets and antique stores for vintage art, fixtures and side tables to complement the room. If your budget allows, invest in a claw foot tub and aged wall sconces to add an instant wow factor to the space.

Rustic

Just because you don't live in the Rockies doesn't mean that your bathroom can't feel like a mountain retreat. Natural materials are the most important part of designing a rustic bathroom. Add wooden planks or logs to the walls to create a warm, rich look and ground the space with natural stone accents. Consider incorporating more natural wood by investing in built-in cabinets. Avoid bright and shiny fixtures, which will feel too modern in the space. Instead, opt for rubbed bronze or antique copper which will continue the room's earthy feel.

Minimalist

While this design style makes a big impact, it's certainly not for everyone. As the name suggests, a minimalist bathroom contains nothing extra. Sinks, walls and floors are unadorned and all bathroom necessities are hidden from view. Fixtures are simply designed and lacking ornamentation and the color scheme is often limited to black, gray, white and occasionally a light-colored wood floor.

Beach

Create a warm, seaside getaway right in your own home. Keep your bathroom light and crisp by offsetting bright white tile against a breezy blue color on the walls. Use rugs made from natural materials like seagrass and bamboo to define the sink area, and make sure the space gets plenty of natural light. Consider adding beach-themed accessories to the counters, such as seashells or a simple black and white photo from a recent trip to the coast.

Asian-Inspired

To create an Asian-inspired bathroom, you should use rich, warm colors and natural materials. Bamboo is a popular material for floors, window treatments and rugs. If you have a favorite piece of Asian artwork, consider hanging it in your bathroom and designing your space around the colors found in the piece. Vases, jewelry boxes and carvings can also provide great inspiration for the space.

Black and White

This look is a classic for good reason. The simplicity of the black and white color palette lends itself to a variety of design styles, from modern to traditional. By investing in neutral tiles and flooring, you can change the personality of a black and white bathroom as easily as you can change the shower curtain and accessories. Add bright, vibrantly colored accessories to create a hip, modern space or opt for muted colors to create a more relaxing atmosphere.

Using these design ideas or your own imagination, your bathroom will be as stylish a room as any in your home.
