Although the letter "d" is barely a passing grade for students to receive in school, flowers whose names start with the fourth character of the alphabet often receive high marks when they are incorporated in bouquets and arrangements. Daffodils
These beautiful flowers bloom in either a pretty white or in a bright yellow hue that will add sunshine to any recipents day. Since daffodils release a substance that can harm other types of flowers, FTD recommends that it may be best to use them alone in a bouquet or when creating a centerpiece.
Daisies
These cheerful buds can be grown in a variety of colors including white, purple and yellow. Although small, an arrangement full of daisies can make a big statement. A popular type of daisy is the Gerbera Daisy, which is easily recognizable due it's bold coloring.
Dahlias
You can easily grow these florals in a variety of colors in the summer and fall. Once they bloom, their large buds make a dramatic statement in a centerpiece or bouquet. There are around 2,000 recognized varieties of dahlias according to the National Gardening Association.
Dianthus
There are several types of flowers who fall under the moniker "dianthus" including carnations and Sweet William. Most dianthus grow in pink, white and red. Flowers tha are from in this category tend to be fragrant.
Double-Flowered Tiger Lily
Tiger Lilies usually have one flower, but there is an atypical variety recognized by the National Gardening Association that grows with an extra layer of petals called the double-flowered tiger lily. These orange and brown flowers typically grow between four and six feet high.
