New York City is one of the world’s best places for top-level interior designers and customers seeking the latest and greatest furniture. While many interior designers shop at the design centers that are open only to the design trade, those decorating on their own will find a wide range of furniture stores in the city. From high-end designer to vintage furniture, in New York City it is easy to find pieces that will make any house, or apartment, a home.
ABC Carpet & Home
ABC Carpet & Home, the furniture and design store in Manhattan, is usually the first stop for anyone seeking the best furniture and home design the city has to offer. The main store is a ten-floor collection of furniture, gifts, house wares and fabric among many items. Across the street is the carpet and rug store. ABC also hosts many events at the store, like a panel discussion with Deepak Chopra. The store is also well known for the ABC Kitchen, a café from Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Phil Suarez. Between the two stores and the restaurant, any shopper could happily spend an entire day at ABC Carpet & Home. The stores are located at: 881 and 888 Broadway, New York, NY 10003.
BDDW
Painter and sculptor Tyler Hays founded the BDDW furniture company and is the head designer. The heirloom quality wood furniture is manufactured locally in Brooklyn. With wood sourced domestically, the furniture is hand rubbed with natural lacquers and oils. The BDDW line contains beds, lamps, mirrors, tables, clocks and seating. BDDW is located at 5 Crosby Street, New York, NY 10013.
Aero Store
Famous for his Vintage Modern line of furniture and home accessories at Target, designer Thomas O’Brien also has a New York City home store called Aero Store. The store is an extension of O’Brien’s design firm called Aero Studio. At the store, O’Brien sells art, home accessories, refurbished vintage furniture and lighting. The stock is hand-picked by O’Brien and reflects his design sensibility. Aero Store is laid out in design vignettes, so customers can get a taste of O’Brien’s expensive design work for themselves. The store is located at 419 Broome Street, New York, NY 10013.
Moss
Known for carrying high-end designers from all over the world, Moss is a 7000 square foot store that sells everything from furniture to watches and jewelry. The shop has a museum feel with product raised up on platforms or displayed behind glass. The store was first opened in a small gallery space in 1994 by Murray Moss and has grown over the years into a leading design store in New York. Moss is located at 150 Greene Street, New York, NY 10012.
VOOS
Located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, VOOS carries only locally manufactured furniture and home accessories. More than 75 local designers are featured at VOOS, with products ranging from wall coverings and seating to lighting and tables. The VOOS showroom is located at 105 north 3rd Street, Suite 105c, Brooklyn, NY 11211. Check the VOOS website for hours.
