College Scholarships for Latinos

There are a number of college scholarships for Latinos out there which are offered through a number of well established funds. These scholarships are integral for students whose families are lower income and can't afford to send their children to college, even though they are qualified to get a higher education. It also keeps these smart hard-working Latino students from having to work jobs while they go to school, distracting them from their studies or making them have to take out student loans which will instantly put them into debt. Check out some of the college scholarships for latinos listed below.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

One of the largest scholarship funds for Latinos out there, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, or HSF, has awarded 330 million dollars in scholarships for Latinos since it was established in 1975. This allows every Latino student who is qualified to have a chance to go to any college that admits them, regardless of what it costs. It draws large donations from major corporations like Wal-Mart and McDonalds so you can be sure that the scholarship money will always be there if you are a Latino student. However, it is difficult to get this scholarship as it is quite competitive.

Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, also known as HACU, has a number of scholarships that it offers which are funded by a number of different corporate partners like The Gap, General Motors, and Home Depot which fund these scholarship awards. Scholarships are based on grades and financial need and scholarships are awarded from one thousand and twenty-eight hundred dollars.

National Association of Hispanic Journalists

For latino students who want to become hispanic journalists, there is the National Association of Hispanic Journalists who offer scholarships every year for qualified students. These scholarship awards are anywhere from one thousand to five thousand dollars each per year per student.
