In Jamaican, the word “faas” means fast, and that is exactly what Puma is trying to encourage with their line of Puma Faas running shoes, which come in both men’s and women’s sizes. Inspired by Jamaican runners, the Puma Faas 250 is an extremely lightweight running shoe that works with your feet to promote a more biomechanically efficient stride.

At A Glance

The Puma Faas line currently includes three models, the 250, 300 and 500, which differ in the amount of cushioning they provide.  At only 6.2 oz, the women’s Puma Faas 250 is an extremely lightweight running shoe for neutral runners and offers the least cushioning of the three models. While it can be used for high mileage runs, with the minimalist design it is more suitable for tempo runs, 5Ks, and racing.

BioRide Technology

This gradually developed technology present in the Puma Faas 250 provides the mechanical aspects responsible for facilitating a natural stride.  The three components called rocker, flex, and groove work together to accomplish this.  The rocker-shaped outsole aids in a centered heel strike nearly effortless toe-off.  The sole includes flex grooves in the midsole that respond to the foot’s natural motion, while the grooves in the side of the shoe provide stability.

Breathability

The Faas 250 has a mesh upper with a polyurethane overlay and open-hole mesh lining beneath the polyurethane layer to keep your feet cool and airy during your run.  The mesh design also features a variety of color combinations to suit your personality.

Other Features

The outsole features EverRide blown rubber that provides cushioning and abrasion-resistant EverTrack composite for added durability without extra weight.  The KMS Sock Liner molds to your foot, creating close to a barefoot feel while allowing for maximum breathability.

Overall, the Puma Faas 250 embodies the principle of “less is more,” for its minimalist construction results in a lightweight shoe that works with your body to make your runs more efficient.  The Faas 250 can be considered a model between a conventional running shoe and a barefoot shoe, and so combines the benefits of both while being able to withstand the demand of elite runners.  For neutral runners who don’t require a lot of extra padding, the Faas 250 is sure to be a good choice for both training and racing.
