Creative Bedroom Design Ideas

Your bedroom is a haven; a place to escape when you need rest or find refuge from visiting relatives during the holidays. However, your bedroom is also an opportunity to show off your sense of style and creativity. No matter whether your bedroom is large or small, you can add unique themes that help stimulate your creativity while working or energize you in the morning. A creative design does not always mean a complete transformation of your existing space. If you are on a budget, focus on design elements of your room that makes your theme stand out.
Adding Color
Color is a great way to create an original look for your bedroom. With a paint roller and multiple paint colors, you can turn a drab space into a vibrant oasis. For a trendy bedroom design, consider painting your room to look similar to the inside of a Rubik’s cube: one wall in lime green, one in electric blue, one in red and the fourth in yellow. Painting the ceiling in black completes this look. If you prefer a more subtle use of color, choose chalkboard paint for one of your walls. Chalkboard paint allows you to write important reminders or notes on your wall and wipe the area clean after each use. Chalkboard paint can be found at most hardware stores.
Furniture Arrangement
Furniture arrangements are a simple way to revamp your bedroom design. Place your bed in the center of the room instead of against a wall. To add a headboard, pull a bookshelf or chest of drawers behind your bed. You can completely enclose you bed with furniture, with the exception of a small entrance, or leave one fixture for the headboard. Choose vibrant bedding since your bed is at the center of the room.
Arrange the remaining furniture in your room by theme. For example, add all armoires, vanities, chest of drawers or shoe racks to one wall where wardrobe is stored. On a second wall, add floor accessories in the style of an art gallery. The idea is to have your space separated by category. In cases where all four walls end up looking similar, consider grouping furniture by size or height for a whimsical look.
Wall Fixtures & Ceiling Ornaments
Make use of your walls and ceilings by adding hanging ornaments or floating murals. In place of a headboard, you can used stretched fabric to match your bedding. Paper lanterns and adhesive wall mural designs are great options for your ceiling design. Select accessories based on the existing color scheme of your room or décor theme. For example, a string of paper lanterns across the ceiling works well for an Asian themed bedroom whereas a tall series of power lines makes a fun decal if your home is in the inner city.
Change Is Good
Creative designs should not be permanent. Make changes to your room design that can be easily changed to match your favorite color or current furniture trends. If you’re not an avid painter, transforming your room using bold paint colors is not a wise option. Instead, pick removable wall stickers or accessories that you can rearrange as needed to suit your creative mood swings. Craft stores, antique shops and sometimes toy stores can all be a source of inspiration when choosing your original bedroom design.
