If buying a traditional bridal shower gift isn't for you, here are some creative bridal shower gift ideas for you! Whether it's a result of financial circumstances, your unique friendship with the bride, or the fact that being traditional just isn't your style, skipping the same-old, same-old can be a fun way to liven up a bridal shower gift. There are some really creative and thoughtful gifts to give at a bridal shower, no matter your circumstance.

Stick to the Things That Are Always Overlooked

A lot of times when selecting items for a registry, couples forget the simple, everyday things. You could buy them a junk drawer. This won’t necessarily be a drawer, but the items that go in it. For example, some duct tape, a flashlight, spare batteries, stamps and other miscellaneous items people are likely to forget or just not have when they first get married.

You could also give a baking pantry-themed gift. Give the bride a bag of flour, sugar and chocolate chips with storage containers and a baking sheet. If you know the bride isn’t a very creative cook, then you could provide her with a recipe book, box or binder full of your family’s favorite recipes to get her started on her own collection. Another great idea would be a paper bag lunch theme. Provide her with a stack of paper lunch bags, storage bags and small containers for holding salads and salad dressings.

Another good collection to include would be for their laundry. You could give them a laundry basket with your favorite laundry detergent and fabric softener. Also include some pre-treatment for stains, a wrinkle relaxer, and hangers. To be more elaborate, include an iron and ironing board.

There are even safety items people don’t want to think about buying that you could get for her. For example, a fully-stocked first aid kit and a small fire extinguisher. Basic medicine cabinet supplies will be useful for the couple to have on-hand before they get sick too. This should include cold and flu medicines, pain relievers, fever reducers and antacids.

Give Sentimental Gifts

If giving a collection isn’t something you would want to do, there are still more creative ideas for you. Your gift could be more sentimental. If you’ve been friends with the couple for a long time, you could collect photos from their relationship and provide the bride with a photo album or scrapbook of their story.

Give Fun Gifts

Since most gifts given at bridal showers and the wedding are practical and functional, it might be nice to give the bride some fun gifts. This can be a collection of movies that the bride loves or even a gift card to the couple’s favorite movie theatre. If they like more sophisticated entertainment, you could give the bride tickets to a museum, ballet or opera.

You can buy the bride matching pajamas for her and the groom. If that’s not her style, then maybe fluffy matching his and hers bath towels would be appropriate and very adorable. You could have matching pillow cases embroidered with their initials so they always know which is theirs.

Give Personalized Gifts

Since you know the bride will soon be sending out “thank you” cards, you could give the bride personalized stationary. You could include 100 envelopes pre-printed with the couple’s return address on them, a pad of paper that says, “From the desk of” and the bride’s name. This is not a gift she is likely to receive, but this isn’t a gift she is likely to ever forget.

You can provide the bride other personalized gifts. A good one would be a picture frame imprinted with the date and location of the wedding. You could also buy them a pair of champagne flutes with the wedding details engraved in the glass with a nice bottle of champagne for private celebrations later. Personalize napkin rings that match the other kitchen décor they are asking for on their registry. They are small items, but the personalization will make a big impact.

Creative Gift Wrapping

When wrapping up your gifts, you can be creative. For the junk drawer theme, give them the gift in an actual drawer, or storage container with a drawer. Use the laundry basket to carry the laundry items with a bow on top. It’s okay if they can see the gift when you bring it in. If you’re giving fluffy towels, fold them up nicely and tie with a ribbon.

You can tailor any of these ideas to fit the bridal shower's theme. A bridal shower is a party to shower the bride with the gifts that will be useful in her new role as a wife and in her new home. Use your creativity and knowledge of the bride and groom to come up with the best gift you can think to give them. The bridal shower gift should not only reflect the bride’s personality, but also the giver’s personality.
