Creative Ideas for Kitchen Cabinet Lights

Lighting your kitchen cabinets can go far beyond soft lighting for a midnight snack if you choose to get creative with your choices. With interesting and exciting lights, you can make your kitchen cabinets stand out for you and your quests.

For dramatic cabinet lighting you can put lights on top of the cabinets facing up towards the ceiling. This glow will give the appearance of higher ceilings and a spacious, more open feel in your kitchen. To do this yourself you could use a small spotlight, or even a battery operated light if there are no close outlets.

Under your cabinets you need functional lights for your counters, but that doesn’t mean the lights can’t add appeal to your kitchen cabinetry. There are lights specifically designed to go under cabinets. If you would like something different there are touch lights that can be easily affixed wherever you would like and since they’re usually battery operated you won’t need to be close to an outlet or deal with hanging cords. You can place a few under the cabinets above commonly used work spaces or over a detail you’d like to highlight. They can be turned on with a touch. You can also use a rope light under the cabinets to give the soft glow to your cabinets.

Lighting inside the cabinets will provide the most dramatic lighting. You can have recessed lighting installed in the cabinet to provide spotlights for artwork or fine china dishes. If you have crystal displayed you could use the lights to create prisms of color in your home by shining the light through them. If you’re looking for a simpler lighting solution the push lights would also fit appropriately in the cabinets. You can open the cabinet and press the light to help you quickly find what you need without the harsh light of a standard kitchen.

You can be flexible with the location of the lights to custom-fit your setup, and don’t be afraid to try variations of fixtures that appeal to your taste.
