Decorating Clay Pots

Clay pots are a great way to express your artistic side because they are an easily decorated household item that can, of course, hold a plant too! There are a number of options at your disposal when decorating clay pots, and some good ideas to consider are buttons, silk leaves, stamps or painting. The beauty of decorating clay pots with paint is that it is extremely easy, and just about any kind of paint will work!

Stamping

When putting stamps on clay pots, this refers to using different shapes of sponges to leave paint imprints on the pot. The first thing you are going to need to do is choose what colors of paint you are going to use, then cutting the right shape out of the sponge to give you your desired stamp. Some good places to start with your stamps include simple circles, which can look like flowers on the pot, or small squares. With a little maneuvering and creativity you can easily make whatever design you want using your stamps! Another great way to enhance your pot after stamping paint on to it is to use a Sharpie to go around the edges of your paint stamps in order to outline them and make them more distinct.

Mosaic

In addition to painting, a great way to decorate clay pots is with a mosaic design. Simply apply glue to small tile fragments and begin creating your own unique design with the shapes and colors of your choosing! A great way to ensure that your tiles do not shift while the glue is drying is to wrap some painter’s tape around them. The painter’s tape will be strong enough to prevent them from moving, while also being very easy to remove afterwards!
