When decorating a guest bathroom, you should think about making your company feel comfortable and taken care of. A neutral, light color palate will appeal to all. A small vase of fresh flowers near the sink or on a shelf or a lightly scented candle will make the bathroom smell inviting.
To make your guest feel relaxed, beach or vacation themed decor has a pleasant, light color palate. Use tans and pale blues on the walls as well as seashell or ocean themed paintings on the walls. Another natural theme is white and light green walls with tree or leaf patterns throughout the accessories. Most home good stores sell coordinating bathroom sets available for most themes. When in doubt, solid colored walls and bathroom accessories are appropriate, but it is nice to add a few personal touches such as figurines or artwork special to you.
When expecting guests, check the bathroom to make sure there are adequate amount of towels and wash clothes. If there is a closet or shelving in the bathroom, stack at least two or three of each inside. Stock the bathroom with toiletry essentials. Make sure the shower has shampoo, conditioner, soap and basic facial wash. Around the sink should be soap and an accompanying lotion for dry hands. A small glass container of cotton swabs and cotton balls should be placed near the sink as well. The glass is important so that the guest can clearly see what is inside, rather than going through the medicine cabinet and all of the drawers to find what he or she needs. Sometimes guests forget items, so have extra toothbrushes and razors handy.
A trash can, with a liner, should be clearly visible next to the toilet or easy to find under the sink. Under the sink should also be feminine supplies. Leave room for the guest to keep their own toiletries. Make sure the sink is clean and clutter removed. There should be space in the shower for an empty basket or clear off an empty ledge. Check the toilet paper roll to make sure it is full or at least have a new roll nearby. A box of soft tissues should be nearby as well.
Now that you have everything in order, enjoy your guests!
