Decorating a Nook

Depending upon how your use the space, decorating your nook can be done in a variety of exciting ways. A nook is a special place in anyone’s home. It is the perfect setting for a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast, or perhaps even a late night read with a steamy cup of hot mocha.

Lighting

A key factor in this sector of decorating your nook is presence of windows. Large windows are always luxurious – with the perfect curtains. Strolling into your nook in the early morning and throwing open a dark, heavy set of curtains to bask in the sunlight of a new and glorious day is guaranteed to be more refreshing than even menthol shampoo. What does this mean? If there are windows in your nook, choice of curtain is crucial. Two things to keep in mind: heavy and dark. There needs to be some weight to your curtains! When they are flung open, it is a statement that the day has begun. Remember to secure a solid and sturdy beam to allow this physicality. The darkness of these curtains is important for two reasons: first, the shower of sunlight you receive will be that much brighter when the curtains are opened to reveal a beckoning world full of opportunity. Second, if the day has been overwhelmingly productive, and winding down in the late afternoon to a cup of herbal tea suits your fancy, closing off the world for utmost privacy is essential in this time of reflection and relaxation.

If there are no windows in your nook space – fret not! The opportunities here are equally exhilarating. The first thing you should consider is hanging lights attached to a dimmer. The dimmer will allow for the brightness needed in a small work session or for soft lighting to accompany that spontaneous moment with a special friend finally coming to fruition in, of all places, the nook.

On that note, tastefully chosen candle mounts (complete with scented candles, of course) for the walls of your nook will provide the elegance and Zen aura that benefit any enchanting evening spent in your nook. White Christmas lights will tie it all together.

Pillows

Throw pillows, in various sizes and shapes, are the backbone to your nook, or literally, the support for your backbone. A plethora of pillows of various shapes and sizes in the nook is not only acceptable but also encouraged in this haven of comfort and joy.

Artwork

Your nook is an opportunity to showcase exceptional taste and cultured je ne saisquois. One large and framed Impressionistic piece from La Belle Epoque (by Edouard Monet or Picasso) is enough to speak for your ability to define lavish.

Ultimately, your nook is a personal place meant to enjoy in solitude or with close friends. The aforementioned decorations are only tips – only you know exactly how to replenish your soul in the warming confines of a nook. Best of luck.
