Designing a Study Nook

Feng shui is not the only thing that matters when designing an area as important as a work place or study nook. This is the first error most make, thinking that the aesthetics of the furniture and how comfortable it is reign supreme over all other aspects. While these do play a major role, there are many elements you many are unaware of, such as the lighting that is most conducive to learning or even the types of colors that should be used in the overall design.

It is important to keep in mind that studies show the best learning environment is one that incorporates either natural light or electrically produced light that closely resembles natural light. Any lamp you choose will work fine but you should opt for HD Full Spectrum light bulbs, such as the value pack of ALZo 27W Compact on Amazon for just $25.84. An added bonus is that these light bulbs are much more cost effective than the traditional light bulb. When designing a study nook for a child, warm colors, such as yellow-orange and peach, have been shown to stimulate learning while cooler hues enable concentration in older individuals.

When trying to find the right furniture to address your particular taste, start off with some stores, such as Ikea, that offer inspiration ideas. They have a great selection of catalogs with study nooks already put together, so you have ability to see what the end result would look like and then pick and choose which elements you want to include in your own area. Pier 1 also offers a wide array of innovative furniture for those who have more flexibility in their budget.

Taking light and the right furniture into consideration will help you design a space that will help your focus and study productively.
