Finding a scholarship for engineering is easier than you might think. With a little research and work you can find money to help you pursue a career in this exciting and high paying field. Many scholarships are open only to certain gender groups or people from certain ethnic backgrounds. Your economic status can also be a determining factor in whether or not you are eligible for the scholarship. Several scholarships are listed below that can help you pay for some or even all of your schooling.
The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation Scholarship for Service Program is a full scholarship offered by the Department of Defense to undergraduate and graduate students studying engineering and other science related disciplines. In order to be eligible for the scholarship students must enroller at an accredited four year institution and have a GPA between 3.0 and 4.0. In order to be granted the scholarship the student must agree and be able to work at the DoD during summer internships and to accept a position within the DoD after graduation. This employment must last at least one year per year of that the student is awarded the scholarship
SWE offers a number of different scholarships to women pursuing education to become and engineer. Awards range for $1,000 to 10,000. Last year SWE gave out nearly $500,000 in scholarships in the form or renewals and new grants. Applications for awards are available from December to February and awards are announced in the summer for the following academic year. The Society uses one application for its various scholarships.
The Steinman Scholarship Award is a $5,000 dollar award granted to a student entering their junior year at a school with an accredited engineering program. To be eligible the student must be a US citizen. The committee that awards the scholarship takes several factors into consideration including GPA, extracurricular involvement, and faculty recommendations. Involvement in internships and/or co-op programs also will help the applicant distinguish him or herself from the crowd. The deadline is March 1st of the applicant’s sophomore year.
This scholarship is awarded to outstanding students interested in pursuing a career in power engineer. JETS partners with Power Engineering Magazine to offer high school seniors a $5,000 dollar scholarship to pursue education in power engineering. In addition to the $5,000 main prize $2,500 and $1000 prize are also awarded. To be considered for the award students must submit a completed application along with a high school transcript and essay that answers the question: What attracts you to a possible career in the electric power industry? Cite three ways a power engineering education could make a difference in your community. Winners are announced in May.
Getting a scholarship to study engineering is one of the easiest types of scholarships to get. That being said there is still a great deal of competition and in order to ensure that you get the most money possible you have to study hard and make sure you apply for as many scholarships as possible.
