Easy Chinese Meals

These popular and easy Chinese meal ideas and recipes are sure to please any crowd. Make enough for an entire main course or make less for a tasty side dish. These recipes will guide you in making Spicy Pork Tofu, Traditional Fried Rice and Szechuan Beef.

Spicy Pork Tofu

Cooks in 10 minutes.

  • 2 cups chopped napa cabbage
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • Canola oil to cook
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 2 tablespoons minced ginger
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons thin soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 10 slices of tofu (2x1 inches)

Ingredients

Squeeze excess water from cabbage on a towel or cheese sloth. In a hot wok or large saucepan, coated with canola oil, add in the ground pork. Cook meat until cooked almost all the way through. Add garlic, ginger and salt, cook for 2 more minutes. Mix soy sauce in and add cabbage and sesame oil. Continue to cook until cabbage looks wilted. Spoon wok mixture over tofu on a large platter.

Traditional Fried Rice

Cooks in 12 minutes.

  • Canola oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons minced ginger
  • 1 bunch chopped scallions, green and white separated
  • 1 lapchang, diced (Chinese sausage), can substitute with 4 strips of cooked bacon
  • 8 cups cooked, day-old long grain rice
  • 3 tablespoons thin soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • Salt

Instructions

In a hot wok or large saucepan, add 2 tablespoons of canola oil and quickly scramble the eggs (do not over cook). Remove eggs and in the same wok, coated with oil, fry the garlic and ginger. Add in the scallions and lapchange. Then add rice and mix well. Add in soy sauce, white pepper and cooked eggs.

Szechuan Beef

  • 1 pound flank steak, sliced very thinly
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cooking wine
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sliced fresh garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sliced jalapeno pepper
  • 6 (1-inch) sections green onion

Sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, mix sliced beef, soy sauce, cooking wine and cornstarch and set aside. In a heated wok or large saucepan add 4 tablespoons of vegetable oil and stir-fry the garlic and jalapeno pepper (about 1 minute). Add the beef and sauce that was set aside earlier and stir-fry over high heat for about 2-3 minutes or until beef is no longer pink on outside. Add green onions near the end of cooking.
