Elegant Hairstyles for Women Over 50

Having the right hairstyle is absolutely essential for a woman. After all, hair is a woman's crowning beauty, and having one that works with your particular face shape tends to help. For women over 50, it is all about having the right style that will be appropriate for their age. Most mature women do not want a hairstyle that is considered too young for them, although certain types may be modified so that they can look great, yet still somewhat trendy at the same time.

If you are a woman over 50 who loves to wear your hair very short, you might want to consider the pixie haircut. This is extremely flattering and attractive. You can choose to wear your hair in either a brushed back style or add some mousse or gel to it and use some tricks with your hairbrush so that you can get some wispy strands that stand on end. The cut ends with your hair just brushing the nape of your neck. This is a great look that would work on any woman over 50 who enjoys short hairstyles.

Another great short haircut for a 50-plus woman if you prefer having somewhat longer hair that is still short is the layered bob. Your hair is mostly one length and cut to jaw length, but you have great, very subtle layers cut at the sides of your head so that the strands frame your face. You can also wear this style with bangs or with a part in the middle or one side of your head.

If you prefer wearing your hair shoulder length or medium length, you can have it hanging just past your shoulders and have the front trimmed into lovely layers all over your head. This gives you a very flattering and somewhat shaggy appearance. It is a hairstyle that looks great on many women who are over 50 years of age. This haircut works best when you have wavy or curly hair. The addition of wispy bangs with such a great haircut can distract people's eyes away from the lines of your face.

There are plenty of elegant updo hairstyles that work well on women over 50 years old when your hair is medium length or long. A classic bun and French twist are two of the most beautiful hairstyles any woman can wear, although they have a distinctive extravagance when worn by more mature women. These styles are perfect for formal events, particularly weddings. A French twist is also an elegant style you can wear in your daily life, whether you are going to work or simply in your backyard, doing gardening work. Not only does the style look great, it also helps to keep your hair off your face when you are busy doing your gardening or housework.

Women over 50 can also wear their hair long when it is down and all loose. A great single length cut is classic and simple, yet lovely at the same time. You can have it hanging halfway down your back, with a part in the middle of your forehead or with gorgeous, wispy bangs that can be the only layered part of your hair. Or, you can have all of your hair in lovely layers all throughout your head, which is a great style for any woman, whether she is 20 or 50.
