One of the types of vegetables you can easily plant and grow are bell peppers. Growing vegetables in your home garden is a wonderful way to provide much needed nutrients to your family. It also helps you to save money and avoid all and any chemicals commercially grown vegetables may contain.
The main thing to concentrate on when you are planning on growing peppers of any kind is that they are planted during the right time. It must be warm outdoors when you begin planting, so you should do so in the middle to late spring or early summer. Avoid planting your bell peppers in the early spring, as the weather is fickle in many areas, and the winter and its freezing temperatures can persist and return without a moment's notice.
Bell pepper plants require a good amount of space to avoid crowding once they are fully-grown. Keep them spaced evenly by about 18 to 24 inches. Peppers also tend to grow better if they are planted near tomato plants, so if you grow tomatoes, make sure you plant your bell peppers just next door. Make sure the location your peppers are planted contains a good well draining soil and that the bed receives fertilizer. This will ensure that your bell peppers will be healthy, and you can expect your plants to produce the vegetables in the late summer.
If you are inexperienced in growing any type of peppers or vegetables in general in your garden, you can start with seeds indoors. This is a good idea, as you can always ensure that your bell pepper plants receive a good amount of warmth, which of course they need in order to thrive. Make sure to water them regularly and that their pots have drainage holes at their bottoms. Once your plants reach a height of about eight inches, you can plant them outdoors.
