Fast-Growing Flowering Vines
Fast-growing flowering vines are perfect for covering bare walls, fences or trellises. Some vines are known for their quick growth rates, while others can be slow to establish. The following list of fast-growing flowering vines contains some of the most popular and widely available plants for home gardens and commercial landscapes.
Silver Lace
The silver lace vine climbs quickly and spreads rapidly. This green-leafed vine produces abundant sprays of white flowers with a lovely perfume. Since it blooms throughout summer and fall and is attractive during the growing season, it is an easy choice for many gardeners. Better yet, it's incredibly simple to care for. The silver lace vine will thrive in poor soil, drought and urban environments. It rarely needs to be fertilized and can be pruned aggressively in the spring to promote new growth.
Trumpet Vine
There are many different varieties of the trumpet vine, which produces tubular flowers in all sorts of colors, including red, orange, white and pink. Wonderful for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies, these vines flower prolifically and are quite easy to maintain. They grow so quickly, in fact, that some gardeners are afraid to plant them because of their invasive qualities. Their beautiful flowers bloom continually throughout summer and fall. For best results, the trumpet vine should be severely pruned at least annually. Otherwise, the plant will develop thick, unruly stems that are hard to manage.
Porcelain Berry
Though the porcelain berry vine prefers moist soils and partial shade, it is adaptable to a wide range of environments. This fast-growing vine produces small white flowers that turn into beautiful berries in autumn. The vine's leaves are marbled in appearance, with varying colors of pink, green and khaki that turn gold at the end of the season. Planted in an area with full sun, this vine can reach heights of up to 15 feet.
