Finding the Perfect Dress for Your Prom

No matter how many dresses a girl has in her closet, it is never as perfect as the one she needs for prom. Prom is a monumental occasion in the lives of many young girls around the country, and having the perfect dress is a major deal. The event is one of the few times a girl can truly feel like a princess. If you are in search of a prom dress, it is important that you find one that is perfect for your body type and style. Read below for some tips on how to find the perfect prom dress for you.

Start the prom dress search as early as possible. Remember that there are a plethora of girls in your area that will be searching for prom dresses as well, so you want to beat them to the punch. Since proms come only once a year, stores rarely have an incredibly large selection of gowns. The earlier you start your search, the better the chances you will scoop up the dress of your dreams.

Be sure to set your budget at this time as well. You cannot begin properly searching for the perfect dress if you do not know your monetary parameters. Searching for your prom dress early with help with costs, as many times you can find a great deal. If you wait until the last minute, you will either be forced to select a dress you do not really like, or else be the victim of a last-minute price increase. The stores know girls get desperate for dresses late in the process, and they adjust their prices accordingly. Beginning early also allows you time to make alterations. If you wait until the last minute to buy a dress, you will be forced to where it as is, which can be a major problem if the dress comes in a different size or shape than you anticipated.

Next, assess your body shape. Be as honest with yourself with possible, as a correct body type assessment will allow you to choose a dress that best compliments your features. You can adjust the dress color, fabric, sleeves, neck line and length according to your specifications. A light-colored dress, for example, might look great on a person with one skin tone, but less attractive on another person. Thus, there is no such thing as an overarching perfect prom dress, just the perfect prom dress for you.

Begin to search through magazines or online for prom dresses you like and think would look good on you. Remember the model of the dress, and search for local stores that might carry it or something similar. When you visit the stores, take a relative or a trusted friend along. This person should be able to politely tell you what looks good on you and what does not. Do not rely on a salesperson to do this for you, as they will be more interested in simply making a sale than looking out for your best interests.

When you are trying on the dresses, try to look as similar to how you will look on your upcoming prom night as possible. In particular, try to do your hair as close to how you will do it on prom night, as some dresses are more attractive with specific hair styles. When you have the dress on, make sure you can move around freely while wearing it. Practice sitting down and getting up. This might sound irrelevant, but you will be sitting down and getting up throughout your prom night, and you want to make sure the dress is not too tight. Even if it will not rip, it may be tight enough that it causes wrinkles when you sit for an extended period of time, such as on the ride to prom. Also practice dancing a bit in your gown. This might be embarrassing in a store, but you want to make sure your dress is as secure and non-restricting as possible. You do not want to wear spaghetti straps, for example, if you plan on doing more than slow dances.

Ask the store if they have a layaway plan. Not only will this allow you to save some of your money, but it will also provide time for you to find the perfect shoes for your particular dress. You can bring the shoes to the store to try on with the dress that is being kept for you. Lastly, choose the appropriate accessories for your dress. Try to wear these to the store when you try the dress on. Accessories will also help you stand out a bit if you unluckily wear the same dress as another girl.
