Finding the Perfect Swivel Chairs for Your Living Room

By Mark Becker , last updated January 10, 2012

Most time spent at home is in the living room, whether lounging about or entertaining others, making comfort a priority for the room. While sofas and easy chairs have always been and are popular options, swivel chairs can serve your purpose as well, and usually at some kind of discount compared to more conventional options.

The versatility offered by a swivel chair is unrivaled in home furnishing, as its mobility provides for a more social setting and can allow you to move freely from one task to another at various points in your immediate space without having to get up or rearrange everything.

Finding the perfect swivel chair does not need to be tasking. Identifying your needs is a good first step to determining what model of chair you need, and from there you can decide on style and other factors that may matter to you.

If you are looking for something to go with a kitchen bar or oriented toward a fixed point, such as a television, a memory return model may be your best bet. These chairs will swivel about as far around as you need with the slightest pressure exerted, but will return to their original position when allowed. These are a good idea for tight spaces, where children or rowdy guests may cause damage if allowed to swivel all the way around.

Of course, 360-degree swivel chairs are another option, and allow for virtually unobstructed movement. Whenever looking to place a chair in an open area, tis is probably the best choice to go with.

Be prepared to spend at least one and often several hundred dollars on each chair, but don't let the money get you down too much, as the payoff from having a few of these chairs will add previously impossible elements to your living room setting.
