Fun Party Games for New Years

New Years is a great time to reflect over the past 12 months with family and friends. If you are throwing a New Years party and you want to keep your guests entertained, you can implement some party games. Party games allow your guests to get to know each other while having fun. Here are a few New Years party games that you can play at your next party.

Guess Which Month

Pick a few of the most famous events that happened during the year from older newspapers or online website archives. Gather all of your guests and have them guess the month that each of the events occurred. The guest who has the most right answers receives a prize.

New Year’s Charades

Choose some of the most popular events that occurred during the past year. You can find some of these events through older newspapers, magazines, or from memory. You can also look for these events through the archives on news websites. Split your guests into teams and have them act out the events from the year. The team that wins can get a prize or bragging rights.

Whose Resolution

One of the most fun things about New Years is making a resolution. Have all of your guests write down 4-5 resolutions apiece. Have them put the resolutions into a hat. As the host, you can draw the resolutions out of the hat and have everybody guess whose resolution you’ve drawn. The guest that guesses the most resolutions correctly can get a prize.

Predictions for the Next Year

Have everybody team up in pairs of two. This can be a great icebreaker if you have people at your home that do not know each other vey well. Give each of your pairs three minutes to get to know each other. After they have asked each other a few questions, have them each write funny predictions for their partner in the New Year. This is a fun way to get some laughs going and build camaraderie at your party.

Who Am I?

One of the biggest concerns about a party is having a bunch of people together that don’t really know each other. If you want to inspire your guests to talk amongst one another, use this game. When your guests arrive, give them a small piece of paper with the name of a celebrity that made headlines during the past year. Tell them that they have to act as that celebrity for the first 20-30 minutes of the party. After everybody has arrived, go through each guest and allow people to guess who they were acting like.

Simple Trivia

This is a really easy game that everybody will love. Go through newspapers or older magazines and pick a news story from the last year. Write down trivia questions from the headlines. Don’t make the questions too easy, but don’t make them too hard either. You want somebody to guess the right answer. Every 10-15 minutes, get your guests attention and read out the trivia question. Offer a prize to whoever gets each of the questions right.
