Fun Recipes Using a Toaster Oven

Cooking with your toaster oven is a great way to introduce kids to the art of cooking, and further to instill a love for it that can last a lifetime. In what follows, you'll find two toaster oven recipes for dishes kids love.

Toaster Oven Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 2 cups diced Yukon potatoes
  • 8 oz. small macaroni
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2 cups diced onions
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp. chopped thyme
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 1/2 cups grated Swiss cheese

Directions

Heat your toaster oven to 350 F and butter up a baking dish. Cook your potatoes in a pot until tender, which should take about 10 minutes of cooking. Strain them and place in a big bowl. Separately, cook the macaroni al dente and add to the bowl with your diced potato. In a sauté pan with 2 tbsp. of butter, sauté your onions and then add the cream and milk, cooking for a few minutes. Add the thyme and take off the heat. Pour this over your potatoes and macaroni, mixing thoroughly along with your cheeses. Season with salt and pepper and bake in your toaster oven for 20 minutes. Let it cool slightly and dig in!

Apple Crisp

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples, cleaned and sliced
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 1 tbsp. butter in pieces

Directions

Place the prepared apples on your toaster oven tray. Blend your flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt and sprinkle on the slices. Dab the apples with water. Put a small bit of butter on each slice and bake for 30 minutes at 375 F. Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.
