Right now everyone is getting ready for swimsuit season and part of that means having a toned tummy; so, you’ll need to know some great ab exercises to keep you on track. The key to having a great set of abs is to tone specific muscles as well as toning the whole muscle unit. Below you will find a great oblique exercise as well as an overall abdominal exercise.
Obliques are the muscles along the sides of your abs, toning them eliminates love handles. The cross body crunch is a great exercise that targets this area. To perform this first lay down on your back. Get in crunch position with your legs bent at a 90 degree angle and feet resting at the floor. Place your hands behind your head. To begin curl and bring your right elbow and shoulder across your body while simultaneously crunching the lower half of your body by bringing in your left knee to meet your right elbow and squeezing your abdominal muscles. Return to the resting position and proceed to lift up your left shoulder, cross your body with your left elbow and meet it with the right knee. For best results perform three sets of twenty.
To work on all the different abdominal muscles at once the V-Up is a great exercise. To perform this exercise lay flat on the floor with your arms straight up and your fingers pointing toward the sky. Lift your head and shoulders off the ground while simultaneously lifting your legs up and stretching your arms towards your toes. Try to create as narrow a “V” with your body as possible then pause while contracting your abdominal muscles. Return back to resting position in a controlled motion. For best results perform three sets of ten.
