How to Apply Eye Liner

Eye liner is a tremendous tool for any woman or man, giving the eyes a bold, brand new look without much work. Applying eye liner is simple, but there are a few places you might go wrong. Applying eye liner after other makeup has been added, for example, can cause problems. Read below for a few tips on how to apply eye liner in the proper manner so your eyes can look as beautiful as possible.

Make sure you put on eye liner before adding other makeup, particularly eye shadow. If you have liquid eye liner, you will not even be able to apply it without bare eyes. Gently hold the skin on the upper part of your eye lid to make application easier. You want to apply your eye liner right at the point where your eyelashes meet your skin. Many women apply the eye liner too high and create an obvious black line on the bottom of their eyelid. Applying your eye liner lower gives you as natural of a look as possible while still maintaining a thick, beautiful appearance.
Start applying the eye liner on the inside of your eye, making one sweep across the entire eyelid. Do not try to apply your eye liner in short, brief strokes, as this will create a blotchy appearance. If you are not comfortable performing a single long sweep across you eyelid, you can start in the middle and perform a single stroke to the outside, and then another single brush from the middle to the inside.
After applying the eye liner to both eyes, look in the mirror to make sure they match. If you would like, apply mascara to the lashes and eye shadow on the eyelids. The latter is most important because it helps your eye liner set and also prevents it from smearing. Be sure your eye liner is dry before applying the other makeup.
