How to Build a Deer Stand

If you are bored and you want to shoot some deer and have no place to shoot from, you may want to know how to build a deer stand. Deer hunting is a tradition that is based in the south that states like Texas are known for. To get involved, a deer stand is most likely necessary because it stations you in one safe location, as you hunt for deer so they have no way of gaining entry into your territory. Most deer stands almost resemble life towers that many life guards are usually stationed at, except deer stands may be a bit taller and structured like a towering tree house. There are many types of deer stands that you can opt to build, though these instructions are for a boxed deer stand.

Get Your Tools Ready

A small boxed deer stand will require six 10 feet by 10 feet square blocks of wood. The thickness may vary, and you can choose how thick you want it to be at your own discretion, however, keep in mind that it should be thick enough to install windows that have the ability to slide up and down. Since windows will be necessary to get a view of the deer, you should purchase windows that will be suitable for your proposed plan. Make sure to cut appropriate holes in those blocks of wood that you choose to put the windows in. It will also be necessary to install a ladder. To make installation easier, you should purchase a ladder that will be suitable with the magnitude of the deer stand. It will also help you climb up and down. Lastly, the deer stand will need poles and strong support structure to carry the weight of the boxed deer stand. When you start building your deer stand you will need both human resources and material resources alike. Get able bodied friends or professionals to help you piece the structure together, and provide you with step by step feedback and guidance to help you build. Predicting the number of bolts, nails, or screws is often difficult, so you should have a tool box by your side that includes a hammer, screw driver, and a wrench should you need them as you begin to build.

Assembling

When you begin to assemble, you should start with the poles and the base. Choose a block that will not be used for the windows, and measure where you should install screws or bolts. Make it secure by using the strongest bolts possible. Use more than one if you need to. Attach the poles to the base on the four corners and fasten. When done, get help to flip the structure and secure it to the ground. When you are done, work on fastening one block at a time to each side. The panels with the windows should face each other. Make sure the bolts fasten at each end. Use a hot glue gun to ensure security. Once you are done, use a high ladder to install the roof and add any insulation that may be deemed necessary. The windows can be installed with a window repairman. What you should do before hand, is measure out the dimensions of the window beforehand, and saw off the square that will need to be in place for the window. Lastly, firm secure the ladder at an angle between 30 and 45 degrees so you can have access to your deer stand.

Additional Features

Handrails should be built in with the deer stand because they make the structure more secure than it would be without it. You do not want to descend a great number of flights, without the protection of a railing nonetheless, so it should be an upmost priority to build one. If you hunt deer at night, then adding lights will be pertinent. There are a variety of lighting options available, and you may either choose to create lighting for you interior, exterior, or both. There are a great number of lamps available for you to choose from. If you choose to get lighting for the interior of your deer stand, you should hire an electrician, or someone with extensive knowledge of wiring to help you set up lighting. In some instances, it may be difficult to get wiring for your deer stand because of its remote location, so you may want to purchase tap lights, which solely operate with battery power. Tap lights are easy to install, and are adhesive to many surfaces. For the exterior, you should look at lamps that easily latch to walls. The less wiring involved the better; you do not want to make it a tree house, the main purpose is to catch some deer.
