To avoid rust and other undesirables, you should know how to clean a meat grinder, and do so often. Given that the food you and your family consume will pass through this device, it is important that you keep it as clean as possible. Basically, all meat grinders are made up of several parts, including grinding plates, an auger, pusher, blades and the grinding body itself. You will need to first disassemble your meat grinder and then clean each of these parts individually. Refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions on how to disassemble your individual meat grinder.
First, you should use soap and water to wash each individual part thoroughly. Then, grab a large bucket or bowl and fill it with piping hot water. Then add a single tablespoon of bleach to your bucket of water. Now you can submerge each piece of your meat grinder into the bucket of water and bleach. After soaking them in the bleach, run each part through regular water again. Then use a dry rag to individually wipe down and dry each part to keep rust from occurring. Do not allow the pieces of your meat grinder to air dry as you may encourage rust by doing so.
Alternatively, you can store individual pieces of the meat grinder in plastic bags with grains of rice to prevent moisture from getting in. This is ideal if you only use your meat grinder on rare occasions and would like to keep it rust free and functioning properly. If this is not an option, you should at least be sure to keep your meat grinder stored in an area that is dry and free from moisture.
Keeping your meat grinder clean will ensure that the food you prepare will be sanitary and that the meat grinder will be kept in good, functioning condition.
