If you have wallpaper on your walls, cleaning them can sometimes be delicate business; but if you know how to clean wallpaper safely, you’ll no longer have to worry about damaging your home during routine cleaning.

A few things that would be handy to have around are buckets, soft brushes, sponges, water, a ladder, a dry towel, a drop cloth, and mild detergent. There are several different types of wallpaper out there, so this list will cover some of the most common types. Make sure you know what kind of wallpaper you have before you begin. Also, it's a good idea to thoroughly dust your walls before you begin washing them.

Vinyl Coated Wallpaper

This type of wallpaper is fairly durable, and is unlikely to accept moisture of grease stains. Lightly scrub it with a sponge or rag, making sure the cleaner that you use is not too abrasive.

Coated Fabric Wallpaper

This kind of wallpaper is made up of a fabric bonded to paper. Oftentimes it also has a vinyl coating as well. This type is generally quite durable and can take a bit of scrubbing.

Solid Vinyl Wallpaper

Just like it sounds, the vinyl is pretty tough. Scrub it thoroughly with soap and water. You shouldn't have to worry about damaging it, as this type of wallpaper can take the scrubbing. But again, make sure the cleaner you use isn't too abrasive.

Plain Paper Wallpaper

Plain paper wallpaper can be very beautiful, but it is also quite delicate. You will want to be especially careful when cleaning this type of wallpaper.

It is truly impressive what a difference it can make to the feeling of a room when you take the time to clean walls that have not been cleaned in a while. The difference is subtle, but it can really brighten up a room and make it feel fresh and new all over again.
