How to Crochet a Daffodil

By Holly Schoch , last updated March 31, 2011

By making crocheted daffodils, you can keep them around all year

You will need a size F US/4.0mm crochet hook, yarn needle, and acrylic yarn in white for the petals and yellow for the cup.

You will first begin by making the cup, or the center. Chain 12, join to beginning to make a circle. Single crochet in each of 12 chains. Do not join rounds, and work in a spiral instead, single crocheting in each stitch around until a center piece is a tube. It should be about an inch long. Then single crochet, half double crochet stitch, and double crochet in each stitch around the one round to make the ruffled edge. Tie off yarn and weave in ends.

Now you will have to make the petals. Repeat the following instructions 6 times.

  • Chain stitch 4, single crochet in second chain from hook and in each chain across - 3 stitches, chain stitch 1 and turn.
  • Single crochet 2 in first stitch, single crochet in next stitch. Single crochet 2 in last stitch. There should be 4 stitches then chain stitch 1 and turn.
  • Single crochet 2, single crochet in next 3 stitches, single crochet 2 in last stitch. There are 7 stitches in this row. Chain stitch 1 and turn
  • Work net 4 rows even
  • Single crochet in second stitch from hook. Single crochet next two stitches together. Single crochet in next stitch. Single crochet next two stitches together. Single crochet in last stitch. Chain stitch 1 and turn.
  • Single crochet in second stitch from hook. Single crochet 2 stitches together. Single crochet next 2 stitches together. Chain stitch 1 and turn.
  • Single crochet in second stitch from hook. Single crochet 2 stitches together. Chain stitch 1 and turn.
  • Single crochet remaining stitch together. Tie off yarn. You should have a petal shaped piece.
  • Single crochet 11 stitches on both sides to clean up each petal
  • Attach together to create the back of the flower and then connect the cup.
