Streamers are the perfect touch to liven up the decor of your party room. This simple and inexpensive item adds a pop of color and visual interest no matter where they are placed. Here are some tips on how to hang streamers.
Streamers can be hung just moments before the start of the party with basic tape, which can be removed easily and does not damage the walls. Test the tape, Masking or Scotch work best, on a part of the wall to ensure your walls and furniture are not affected.
Over a large entranceway, hang several strips of streamers in a row around 5 inches apart across the entire frame. Cut or rip streamers so they end a few inches above the floor, assuring nobody will trip or accidentally rip them off. This floor to ceiling row of streamers creates a fun passageway to the party. If you do not have any large entranceways, line streamers along the nearby door and window frames for a similar effect.
If the center of the room hosts a chandelier or other central lighting fixture, attach one end of the streamer to the fixture and extend it to the edge of the room where the ceiling meets the wall. Continue along the fixture until the entire ceiling is lined with loops of streamers. Instead of creating loops from the center to the edges, use a continuous line or cut 3 to 5 foot streamers to hang in loops around the parameter of the party room.
Swirling the streamers creates dimension. Tape a row of streamers to a starting point and twirl either clockwise or counter clockwise until taping to the next point. For multicolored dimensional streamers, line two different colors back to back, tape them to a desired location, and then twirl. For more places to decorate, wrap tall pole shaped objects, like floor lamps or coat racks, from top to bottom in one or two solid colored streamers.
Wrap tables in streamers for a colorful alternative to a tablecloth, or over an existing tablecloth. Wrap the legs and the table top in one to two colors of streamers either horizontally or crossing vertically, before placing the birthday cake, gifts or other party items on top. Do not wrap furniture that will be used frequently, as the paper streamers are fragile and will most like tear.
The key to successful party decorating is to not overdo it. Using too many streamers with uncoordinated colors might come across as tacky, so use them only to enhance the existing themed decor. To hide tape marks, attach balloons to anywhere the streamers end or fold tape into loops before attaching to the back of the streamers, hiding the tape from view. Make sure to securely tape down all streamers near frequently used windows or doors. If possible, turn off all fans and air conditioning units so that they do not blow away your decorations. Invite a friend to assist you while decorating for a quick set up as well as a trusted opinion to let you know if they look appropriate.
