Beaded Christmas ornaments can add a special sparkle to any Christmas tree. Make your own as gifts, or turn this craft project into an opportunity to spend quality time with family members. Kids will love making beaded Christmas ornaments. There are many different ways to create beaded ornaments, and this article will provide you with insightful tips to make several types.

Suggested Supplies and Tools

  • Wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Ornament hooks
  • Small and large beads in different colors
  • Standard colored ball ornaments
  • Ribbon
  • Hot Glue
  • Tweezers

Wire Swirl Ornament

Wire swirl ornaments are one of the easiest types of beaded ornaments to make. Cut a long piece of wire, and then bend the end of it into a tiny circle. This will keep your beads from falling off the end. Next, bend the wire into your desired shape. It's easy to make a circular spiral globe — just make the spirals tight at the bottom, loose in the middle and tight again at the top. Next, thread your beads onto the wire. If you use large beads, it will take less time. Alternate colors and shapes for a varied appearance. Once you've finished beading, bend another small loop at the top to hold the beads in place. Finish with an ornament hook and a ribbon. Your ornament is ready to hang!

Beaded Ball Ornament

For a simpler project, consider gluing large beads to a standard ball ornament. Larger beads will be much easier to work with and do a better job of hiding glue. Since your ornament will probably show through the beads, choose a color that will complement the beads you've chosen for adornment. Use tiny dots of a low temperature hot glue to stick beads on your existing ornament, and use as many or as few beads as you wish. Glue a few in a cross or star pattern, or glue them over the entire ornament.
